Plus II girl student set on fire by miscreants in Puri district, investigation underway

Bhubaneswar, July 19: In a horrifying incident, a Plus II girl student was brutally set on fire by three unidentified miscreants in Bayabara village under Nimapara Block of Odisha’s Puri district on Saturday morning. The attack took place while the victim was on her way to visit a friend in the nearby Bayabari village under the jurisdiction of Balanga police station.
According to eyewitnesses, the girl was intercepted by three bike-borne youths who poured a flammable liquid on her before setting her ablaze. The assailants fled the spot immediately, leaving the victim screaming in agony. Hearing her cries, local residents rushed to her aid and took her to Pipili hospital.
Due to the severity of her burn injuries, she was later shifted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar for advanced medical care. The incident, which occurred just 5 to 7 kilometers from the Balanga police station, has sent shockwaves through the region, sparking fear and outrage among residents.
Balanga police have launched an investigation and are working to identify and apprehend the culprits. The brutal attack has drawn comparisons to the recent self-immolation case of a student in Balasore, intensifying public demand for justice and improved safety for young women.
