Bhubaneswar, April 17: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) supremo and Odisha’s longest-serving Chief Minister, Naveen Patnaik, filed his nomination papers on Thursday for re-election to the post of party president. The nomination was submitted at the party’s headquarters, Sankha Bhawan, in Bhubaneswar, amid the ongoing organizational elections of the BJD.

According to party sources, the BJD conducts its internal elections every three years to elect office-bearers, including the state president. As there are no challengers for the top post, Patnaik—who has served as the party's founder president since its inception in 1997—is expected to be re-elected unopposed.

Earlier, BJD’s Coordination Committee Chairman Devi Prasad Mishra had announced that Patnaik would be filing his nomination. The party’s organizational restructuring is in full swing, with a new state council and executive body expected to be announced within the next two days.

The formal declaration of Patnaik’s re-election is scheduled for April 19. His continued leadership reinforces his central role in shaping the BJD’s direction and strengthening its grassroots presence across Odisha.
