Man kills father, critically injures mother after family dispute in Sambalpur
Bhubaneswar, April 6: A shocking incident of domestic violence rocked Turipada village under Jujumura police limits in Sambalpur district on Sunday, after a man allegedly killed his father and severely injured his mother following a heated argument.
The deceased has been identified as Gaya Mallick, aged 80. His wife, 72-year-old Ukiya Mallick, is battling for her life at the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Sambalpur.
According to sources, Gaya Mallick had four daughters and two sons, all of whom are married. The incident occurred when a verbal altercation broke out between Gaya and his younger son, Balakrishna Mallick (40), reportedly over a long-standing domestic issue.
In a fit of rage, Balakrishna allegedly picked up an iron rod and fatally attacked his father. When his mother, Ukiya, tried to intervene, she too was assaulted and sustained critical head injuries.
Local residents alerted the police, who promptly arrived at the scene, recovered Gaya’s body, and sent it for post-mortem examination. Ukiya was first taken to Jujumura CHC, but due to the severity of her injuries, she was later shifted to Sambalpur DHH.
