Odisha to launch ‘Madho Singh Haath Kharch Yojana’ for tribal students

Bhubaneswar, Sept 5: The Odisha government is set to launch a new scheme called the ‘Madho Singh Haath Kharch Yojana’ to provide financial assistance of Rs 5,000 to each tribal student for their education, announced Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mukesh Mahaling in the Assembly on Thursday. The proposal is expected to receive Cabinet approval in a meeting on Friday.
The minister explained that the ‘Madho Singh Haath Kharch Yojana’ aims to reduce dropout rates among tribal students in the state. The scheme will benefit approximately 300,000 students belonging to the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category, with the state government allocating Rs 156 crore in the 2024-25 fiscal budget.
The scheme will provide an annual incentive of Rs 5,000 to tribal students as they transition from Class VIII to IX and from X to XI. Implementation of the scheme is planned for this year.
