Sixty students fall ill after consuming egg curry in Jharsuguda school

Bhubaneswar, Aug 17: Sixty students from a school in Jharsuguda district fell ill after consuming rotten egg curry served in their mid-day meal on Saturday.
Students of Jamera UGME School in Jharsuguda experienced stomach pain and vomiting after eating the mid-day meal. They were initially taken to a nearby health center and later transferred to the District Headquarters Hospital for further treatment.
According to sources, 132 students were served egg curry and rice as part of the mid-day meal program. Despite the students reporting a foul smell from the eggs, they were still served the meal.
The incident has sparked outrage among parents, who are demanding action against the school authorities.
Block Resource Coordinator Rabindra Sahu stated, "Today, the children were given rice and egg curry. When they complained of stomach pain after eating, I immediately instructed that the ailing students be admitted to the nearby hospital. The children are currently undergoing treatment and are out of danger. The eggs had a foul smell, but the inside appeared fine, according to the children. We are investigating the incident."
The school chairman acknowledged that the egg curry was spoiled and should not have been served to the students. He suspected food poisoning and called for a thorough investigation into the incident.
