Prashant Jagdev hospitalized post-arrest for EVM tampering allegation
Bhubaneswar, May 29: Chilika MLA and BJP's candidate from Khordha, Prashant Jagdev, was admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital early Wednesday due to illness.
Following an application by his lawyer, Jagdev was transferred from Khurda jail to the hospital at 4 a.m. His condition had deteriorated in jail, necessitating his admission. Currently, he is receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital’s Medicine ward, according to hospital sources.
Jagdev, the BJP candidate from the Khordha Assembly constituency, was arrested after allegedly toppling an Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) at a polling booth where he went to cast his vote. This incident occurred during the third phase of polling in Odisha on May 25, leading to his detention based on a complaint filed by the presiding officer.
His arrest sparked a heated exchange between BJP and the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD). BJP leader Aparajita Sarangi dismissed the allegations against Jagdev as baseless and politically motivated. Conversely, the BJD filed a complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), demanding strict action against Jagdev.
