Former BJP leader Irani Ray joins BJD

Bhubaneswar, March 24: Former BJP leader Irani Ray, who contested the 2019 Assembly poll from Nayagarh on a BJP ticket, officially joined the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) at the party headquarters in Bhubaneswar today.
Ray's induction into the ruling party took place amidst the presence of prominent party figures, including MP Manas Mangraj, Arun Sahoo, and Sasmit Patra, at Shankha Bhawan.
Ray's decision to switch parties comes after her recent resignation from the BJP, citing dissatisfaction with the party leadership.
"I felt that the BJP lacked respect for women and failed to recognize my efforts. Therefore, I have chosen to align myself with the BJD, inspired by the leadership of CM Naveen Patnaik," Ray expressed during a Mishran Parv event.
In the 2019 elections, Ray contested from Nayagarh on a BJP ticket but was defeated by BJD's Arun Sahoo.
