Bhubaneswar, July 20: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued Yellow Warnings for several districts of Odisha over the next five days, forecasting heavy rainfall, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds. The weather department has advised people to remain cautious, particularly in coastal and northern parts of the state, as active monsoon conditions are expected to persist.

According to the IMD, July 21 is likely to witness heavy rainfall in Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph are also expected in several districts, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Angul, Ganjam, Puri and Khurda.

On July 22, heavy rainfall is forecast for Sundargarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj, while thunderstorms and gusty winds are likely in several coastal districts, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Puri and Ganjam.

The IMD has also predicted heavy rain in Balasore, Bhadrak, Sundargarh, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj on July 23, with thunderstorms expected across many parts of the state. Similar weather conditions are likely on July 24, while Sundargarh, Jharsuguda and Sambalpur may experience thunderstorms and gusty winds on July 25.

The weather office has advised residents to stay updated with official forecasts, avoid open areas during thunderstorms and remain away from waterlogged locations and vulnerable structures. Authorities have also urged people to follow traffic advisories and take necessary precautions to ensure safety during the period of adverse weather.
