Two killed, two critically injured in truck collision on Cuttack-Chandbali road
Bhubaneswar, July 20: Two persons were killed and two others sustained critical injuries in a devastating road accident at Kusunpur Square on the Cuttack-Chandbali Road early on Monday morning. The mishap occurred after a shrimp-laden container truck crashed into a stationary cement truck parked on the roadside.
According to preliminary reports, the cement-laden truck had been parked after one of its tyres burst. At around 5 am, a container truck carrying shrimp and travelling from the Cuttack side rammed into the stationary vehicle from behind at high speed.
The impact of the collision was so severe that the front portion of the shrimp-laden truck was completely mangled, trapping its occupants inside. Four persons were travelling in the vehicle at the time of the accident. Two of them died on the spot due to the severity of the crash, while the remaining two suffered grievous injuries.
Local residents and emergency responders rushed to the spot and rescued the injured. They were initially admitted to Nischintakoili Hospital for first aid before being shifted to a hospital in Cuttack for advanced treatment. The condition of the injured is reported to be critical.
The identities of the deceased were yet to be established at the time of reporting.
On receiving information, Sadar Police reached the accident site, cleared the damaged vehicles and initiated an investigation into the incident. Police are examining the circumstances that led to the collision, including whether visibility, speed or negligence contributed to the fatal accident. Further details are awaited as the investigation continues.
