England Clinch ODI Series 2-1 After Defeating India in Thrilling Decider

London, July 20: England defeated India by 27 runs in the third and final One Day International (ODI) at Lord's to seal the three-match series 2-1. A commanding batting display followed by disciplined bowling helped the hosts secure their first bilateral ODI series victory over India in several years.

After winning the toss, England produced a massive total of 387/3 in their allotted 50 overs. Opener Ben Duckett starred with a brilliant 141, laying a solid foundation for the innings. Young batter Jacob Bethell provided excellent support with a fluent 91, while Joe Root remained unbeaten on 74. England accelerated in the closing overs to post one of their highest ODI totals against India.

India began the chase confidently with captain Rohit Sharma leading from the front. The veteran opener scored a magnificent 138, becoming the first Indian batter to register an ODI century at the historic Lord's Cricket Ground. He shared a 147-run opening partnership with Shubman Gill, who contributed a valuable 77, keeping India's hopes alive.

However, the match turned after Rohit's dismissal at a crucial stage. England's bowlers maintained pressure during the final overs, with Sam Curran and Jacob Bethell making key breakthroughs. Despite some late resistance from the middle order, India could only reach 360/7, falling 27 runs short of the target.

England's victory was built on a complete team performance, with both batters and bowlers delivering when it mattered most. The hosts displayed aggressive stroke play throughout their innings and held their nerve while defending a challenging total.

For India, Rohit Sharma's memorable century remained the biggest positive despite the defeat. The visitors showed resilience with the bat but struggled to contain England's explosive batting attack and were unable to capitalize on a strong start during the chase.

With the win, England claimed the ODI series 2-1, boosting the team's confidence ahead of upcoming international assignments. India, meanwhile, will look to address shortcomings in bowling and death-over execution as they prepare for their next white-ball challenges.
