OMSA calls off indefinite strike after talks with Odisha Health Minister
Bhubaneswar, July 4: Healthcare services across Odisha are expected to return to normal after the Odisha Medical Services Association (OMSA) on Saturday withdrew its indefinite cease-work agitation following successful talks with State Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling.
The strike, which began on July 1, had disrupted medical services in several government healthcare institutions, including Community Health Centres (CHCs) and District Headquarters Hospitals (DHHs), as doctors pressed for the fulfilment of a 10-point charter of demands related to service conditions and career advancement.
Following a meeting with the Health Minister, OMSA announced that it had decided to end the agitation after the State Government assured the formation of a high-level committee to examine the association’s demands. The committee will review key issues, including cadre restructuring, implementation of Dynamic Assured Career Progression (DACP), special incentives and place-based incentives for doctors.
The association also informed that another round of discussions with the government has been scheduled for July 22 to further deliberate on the pending issues and work towards a long-term solution.
OMSA has directed all its members to resume duties with immediate effect, expressing confidence that the government will take positive steps to address the concerns of doctors. The decision has brought relief to patients, as normal healthcare services are expected to be restored across government hospitals in the State.
