Crime Branch conducts polygraph test on associate of deceased GRP constable in Balianta mob lynching case
Bhubaneswar, July 3: The Odisha Crime Branch on Friday conducted a lie detection (polygraph) test on Om Prakash Rout, an associate of deceased Government Railway Police (GRP) constable Soumya Ranjan Swain, as part of its ongoing investigation into the high-profile Balianta mob lynching case.
The examination was carried out at the State Forensic Science Laboratory (SFSL) in Bhubaneswar under tight security after the investigating agency obtained the necessary permission from the court. Sources said Om Prakash Rout voluntarily consented to undergo the polygraph test, allowing investigators to proceed with the examination.
According to officials, the Crime Branch prepared a detailed questionnaire containing more than 50 questions to verify key aspects of the case. The test was conducted by forensic experts in the presence of the investigating officers to ensure adherence to standard legal and scientific procedures.
The polygraph examination forms part of the agency’s efforts to corroborate evidence, verify statements and establish the sequence of events surrounding the mob lynching incident that claimed the life of the GRP constable.
While the Crime Branch has not disclosed the questions asked or the outcome of the examination, officials maintained that the investigation is progressing and all available scientific methods are being utilised to uncover the facts. Further action will be taken based on the findings and other evidence collected during the probe.
