Odisha govt schedules annual technical inspection of Shree Jagannath Temple on July 18
Bhubaneswar, July 2: The Odisha government has scheduled the annual joint technical inspection of the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri on July 18, 2026, to assess the structural condition of the 12th-century shrine and identify any conservation requirements.
According to an official communication issued by the Works Department, the inspection will be carried out jointly by members of the Technical Committee of the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) and officials of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), Puri Circle. The inspection is scheduled to commence at 10:30 am.
Following the inspection, a review meeting will be held at the SJTA Conference Hall or the PWD Inspection Bungalow, Nirman Niwas, Puri, where officials will discuss the observations made during the exercise and decide on the necessary follow-up measures for the temple's maintenance and preservation.
To facilitate a comprehensive assessment, the state government has requested the ASI to make necessary arrangements, including the installation of staging inside the Garvagriha (sanctum sanctorum), Jagamohana, and Natamandapa, enabling experts to closely examine the structural condition of these key portions of the temple.
The Works Department clarified that the inspection is a routine annual exercise conducted to monitor the health of the historic monument and ensure its timely conservation. Such inspections play a crucial role in preserving the architectural integrity of the centuries-old temple.
The official communication regarding the inspection was issued by Engineer Laksmi Kanta Padhi, Engineer-in-Chief-cum-Special Secretary to the Government, Works Department, and addressed to the Superintending Archaeologist, ASI, Puri Circle.
