India's History Will Be Studied in Two Phases: Amit Shah
New Delhi/Gandhinagar: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has said that future generations may study the history of independent India in two distinct phases—before 2014 and after 2014—describing the year as a defining moment in the country's governance and development.
Speaking at the launch of the pilot project of the PM Family Care Tracker (PM-FCT) and Health Passport in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, Shah asserted that the formation of the Narendra Modi-led government in 2014 ushered in a new era of transparent and technology-driven governance. He said the government's welfare initiatives have focused on ensuring that benefits reach eligible citizens directly, reducing leakages and improving efficiency in public service delivery.
Highlighting the role of digital governance, the Home Minister said the PM Family Care Tracker is designed to integrate information related to birth and death registration, healthcare, nutrition, education and various welfare schemes. The platform, he noted, would enable authorities to identify beneficiaries more effectively and ensure that no eligible citizen is left out of government assistance programmes.
Shah also claimed that governance after 2014 has witnessed significant improvements in accountability and transparency, with the widespread use of digital platforms and Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) systems. According to him, these reforms have strengthened public confidence by ensuring that financial assistance reaches beneficiaries without intermediaries.
The Home Minister maintained that the changes introduced over the past decade have transformed the way welfare schemes are implemented, making governance more citizen-centric and efficient. He said these developments would be viewed as a major milestone in India's post-independence history.
Shah's remarks have sparked political attention, with supporters viewing them as recognition of the policy and governance reforms undertaken since 2014. Critics, however, have described the statement as a political interpretation of India's history, arguing that the country's progress has been shaped by successive governments over several decades.
The comments come amid continuing political debate over the legacy of different governments and the impact of reforms introduced during the past decade. The launch of the PM Family Care Tracker reflects the Centre's broader push towards digital governance and integrated delivery of public services across the country.
