BMC installs solar-powered dust collectors to improve air quality in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar, June 23: In a significant step towards improving urban air quality and promoting sustainable environmental solutions, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has installed solar-powered dust collector machines in key pollution-prone areas of the city.

As part of the first phase of the initiative, 20 dust collector units have been deployed in the Lingaraj Temple and Patia areas, which are known for experiencing high levels of dust pollution. These localities witness heavy traffic movement, intense commercial activities, and the operation of workshops and small industrial units, all of which contribute to deteriorating air quality.

The project has been launched to address growing concerns over airborne dust particles and their impact on public health. The solar-powered machines use renewable energy to operate, making them both environmentally friendly and energy efficient. They are designed to absorb dust-laden and contaminated air from the surrounding environment, filter harmful particulate matter generated by traffic and industrial activities, and release cleaner air back into the atmosphere.

Officials believe the deployment of these machines will help reduce dust pollution levels in busy urban zones while improving the overall quality of life for residents and visitors.

The initiative reflects BMC’s commitment to adopting innovative and sustainable technologies for environmental management. If the project delivers positive results, the civic body is expected to consider expanding the installation of solar-powered dust collectors to other pollution-affected areas of the city in the coming months.
