IMD issues five-day yellow warning for Odisha as monsoon remains active
Bhubaneswar, June 23: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Warning for multiple districts of Odisha over the next five days as the southwest monsoon continues to remain active across the state. The weather office has cautioned residents about the possibility of thunderstorms, lightning, strong winds and heavy rainfall in several regions.
According to the IMD forecast, on June 24, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 40-50 kmph are likely in districts including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri. Heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places in Nabarangpur, Koraput and Malkangiri.
On June 25, similar weather conditions are likely to continue, with heavy rainfall forecast for parts of Cuttack, Rayagada, Koraput, Gajapati and Nayagarh districts. Several coastal, northern and southern districts may also experience thunderstorms and strong surface winds.
The IMD has further predicted thunderstorms and gusty winds over western and southern Odisha on June 26, while heavy rainfall is likely in Balangir, Kalahandi, Koraput and Malkangiri districts.
For June 27, heavy rainfall is very likely at isolated places in Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri and Gajapati districts.
The weather department has advised residents to remain alert during thunderstorm activity, avoid open areas during lightning, and take necessary precautions against strong winds and heavy rainfall. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as monsoon activity intensifies across Odisha.
