Odisha braces for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms till September 14
Bhubaneswar, Sept 9: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread rainfall, heavy to very heavy showers and thunderstorms across Odisha till September 14, with several districts placed under Red, Orange and Yellow warnings over the coming days.
On September 10, an Orange Warning has been issued for Kendrapada and Jagatsinghpur for heavy to very heavy rainfall. Thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds reaching 40-50 kmph are likely in several coastal and northern districts, including Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kataka, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Puri and Khordha.
The weather is expected to intensify on September 11, when Mayurbhanj has been placed under a Red Warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall, with extremely heavy rainfall possible at isolated locations. Baleshwar, Bhadrak and Kendujhar are under Orange Warning.
On September 12, Orange Warnings have been issued for Kalahandi, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri for heavy to very heavy rainfall and thunderstorms accompanied by winds of 40-50 kmph. Several other districts remain under Yellow Warning.
The IMD has also issued a Yellow Warning for September 13 for Kandhamala, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri, with thunderstorms and gusty winds likely across southern and coastal districts.
Residents and authorities have been advised to remain alert and closely monitor updated weather bulletins.
