Bhubaneswar, June 22: In a major success against Maoist activities, security forces have recovered a large cache of arms, ammunition and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) from a Maoist hideout in the dense Badlipahad forest under the Boipariguda police station area of Koraput district.

The operation was carried out by the District Voluntary Force (DVF) based on specific intelligence gathered from surrendered Maoist cadres. Acting on the information, security personnel launched an intensive search operation in the forested region bordering Bastar district of Chhattisgarh and unearthed the hidden dump at around 5:30 am.

Among the items recovered were an INSAS rifle, a country-made firearm, six Claymore mines weighing approximately 18 kg, several tiffin bomb IEDs weighing around 10 kg and 4 kg, a Maoist kit bag, Maoist literature, medicines and food supplies. Officials believe the materials belonged to cadres of the Andhra-Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC) and were intended for use in attacks against security personnel and civilians.

The recovery is being seen as a significant step in Odisha’s ongoing anti-Maoist campaign. Koraput district is steadily moving towards its goal of becoming completely Maoist-free by March 31, 2026. Since January 2025, one Maoist cadre has been arrested while another has surrendered in the district.

Security forces, including the Special Operations Group (SOG), DVF and Border Security Force (BSF), continue to conduct regular combing and surveillance operations to prevent any resurgence of Maoist activities in the region.
