Bhubaneswar, June 23: The Commissionerate Police on Tuesday stepped up its investigation into the death of medical student Chandrika Hembram by interrogating her male friend, Bhimsen Tudu, after obtaining his two-day remand from the court.

A special police team brought Tudu to Baranga Police Station at around 11.30 am, where he was questioned by a team comprising the Investigating Officer, an Inspector, and the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) of the concerned zone. The interrogation is focused on gathering more information regarding the circumstances leading to Chandrika’s death.

According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), investigators have recovered crucial digital evidence from Tudu’s mobile phone, laptop and social media accounts. Preliminary analysis of these electronic devices has reportedly revealed material that may indicate a case of abetment to suicide, prompting further scrutiny by the investigating team.

Police are also examining call detail records, WhatsApp conversations and social media interactions to establish the nature of the relationship between the two and determine whether any actions or communications may have contributed to the incident. Officials said the questioning is being conducted based on evidence collected so far to build a legally sustainable case.

The investigation may be expanded to include statements from relatives, friends and other individuals whose names have surfaced during the probe. Police have also indicated that Tudu’s current female friend may be questioned if required.

Meanwhile, the DCP urged people facing emotional distress to seek support from family, friends and professional counselling services, emphasizing the importance of reaching out for help during difficult times.
