Southwest monsoon covers entire Odisha in just 11 days
Bhubaneswar, June 23: The southwest monsoon has now covered the entire state of Odisha, completing its advance across all districts within just 11 days of its onset, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The rapid progression marks one of the faster monsoon advances in recent years and is expected to bring widespread rainfall across the state in the coming days.
The IMD said the monsoon began entering Odisha on June 12 and steadily advanced through different regions before covering the entire state by Tuesday. The swift movement of monsoon winds has strengthened rain-bearing systems over Odisha, creating favourable conditions for continued rainfall activity.
Most parts of the state remained under cloudy skies throughout Tuesday as the monsoon tightened its grip. Several districts received light to moderate rainfall, while many other areas experienced overcast weather for most of the day. The widespread cloud cover and rain brought significant relief from the prevailing heat and humid conditions.
Western Odisha witnessed the most noticeable improvement in weather conditions, with daytime temperatures falling by 3 to 5 degrees Celsius in several places. The cooler conditions have provided much-needed respite to residents after weeks of summer heat.
The regional meteorological centre has forecast further improvement in weather conditions, predicting an additional drop of around 3 degrees Celsius over the next two days. With the monsoon now fully active across Odisha, rainfall activity is expected to intensify, benefiting agriculture while helping replenish water resources across the state.
