Over 91% beneficiaries receive April-May pensions in Odisha
Bhubaneswar, June 22: The Odisha government has disbursed pensions for April and May to more than 17.60 lakh beneficiaries under various social security schemes, covering nearly 91.5 per cent of the total eligible recipients in the state, Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities Minister Nityananda Gond said on Monday.
Providing an update on the pension distribution process, the Minister informed that out of 19,22,525 beneficiaries enrolled under different welfare schemes, 17,60,435 individuals have already received their pension amounts directly in their bank accounts. The beneficiaries include senior citizens, widows, persons with disabilities and other vulnerable sections of society who depend on social security assistance for their livelihood.
Gond said the government has also initiated the process of releasing pensions for June and is taking all necessary steps to ensure timely disbursement. He assured that the remaining beneficiaries who have not yet received their April and May pensions will get their dues soon after the completion of banking and technical formalities.
The Minister reiterated the state government's commitment to ensuring that no eligible beneficiary is deprived of financial assistance. He added that officials are closely monitoring the process to resolve pending issues and streamline payments.
The update comes amid reports of delays in pension disbursement caused by technical glitches in the payment portal. The government has assured beneficiaries that corrective measures have been taken and pending payments will be cleared at the earliest.
