MODI GOVERNMENT COMPLETES 12 YEARS IN OFFICE, HIGHLIGHTS WELFARE AND DEVELOPMENT MILESTONES
New Delhi, June 9: The Narendra Modi-led government on Monday completed 12 years in office, marking a significant political milestone in India's democratic journey. Prime Minister Narendra Modi used the occasion to reaffirm his government's commitment to inclusive growth, welfare-driven governance, and national development, while highlighting key achievements recorded since 2014.
In a message to the nation, the Prime Minister said that the welfare of the poor, farmers, women, and marginalized communities has remained the central focus of government policies over the past decade. He stated that various flagship schemes have transformed the lives of millions of citizens by improving access to housing, healthcare, sanitation, financial services, and clean drinking water.
The government cited several major initiatives, including the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, Ayushman Bharat, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, Jal Jeevan Mission, and Swachh Bharat Mission, as examples of efforts aimed at improving living standards across urban and rural India. Officials claimed that these programmes have helped extend essential services to previously underserved sections of society.
Technology and digital governance were also highlighted as key pillars of the administration's approach. According to the Prime Minister, the widespread adoption of digital platforms has improved transparency and efficiency in the delivery of welfare benefits. The expansion of Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mechanisms and the rapid growth of Unified Payments Interface (UPI)-based transactions were presented as major achievements that have strengthened India's digital economy.
On the economic front, the government emphasized India's growth trajectory over the past 12 years. Significant investments in highways, railways, airports, ports, and digital infrastructure have contributed to modernization efforts across the country. Government representatives noted that reforms such as the Goods and Services Tax (GST), initiatives to boost manufacturing, and measures aimed at attracting investment have supported economic expansion.
The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a nationwide outreach campaign to commemorate the anniversary. Party leaders and workers are organizing public events, exhibitions, and awareness programmes to showcase the government's achievements and interact with citizens. Several states are expected to witness special activities over the coming days as part of the celebrations.
Political observers describe the completion of 12 years in office as a notable achievement for Prime Minister Modi, making him one of the longest-serving leaders in independent India. Supporters credit the government for advancing welfare delivery, infrastructure development, and digital transformation, while critics continue to raise concerns regarding employment generation, inflation, and manufacturing growth.
As the government enters another year in office, the focus is expected to remain on economic growth, social welfare, infrastructure expansion, and technological innovation. The anniversary provides an opportunity for both supporters and critics to assess the impact of policies implemented over the last twelve years and evaluate the challenges that lie ahead for the nation.
The milestone marks not only a political achievement for the ruling government but also a moment of reflection on India's developmental journey during a period of significant change and transformation.
