Suspended police officer booked in Kendrapara custodial assault case
Bhubaneswar, June 2: In a significant development in the alleged custodial assault case that has sparked public outrage in Kendrapara district, a criminal case has been registered against suspended Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of Talachua Marine Police Station, Sandhyarani Jena, for allegedly assaulting a woman and her son inside the police station.
The case was formally registered on Monday at Talachua Marine Police Station, days after Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) ordered Jena’s suspension pending inquiry into the allegations.
According to police sources, the suspended officer has been booked under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) relating to assault, abuse of authority, and other alleged offences. The registration of the case marks a major step in the investigation into the high-profile controversy.
The allegations stem from a complaint filed by a woman and her son, who claimed they were physically assaulted while at the police station. According to their statement, they had visited the station to lodge a complaint when the alleged incident took place. They accused the officer of subjecting them to physical and verbal abuse within the police premises.
