Balasore teacher dies of heart attack after alleged six-month salary delay
Bhubaneswar, June 24: A tragic incident in Odisha’s Balasore district has sparked concern over administrative delays and the welfare of government employees after a primary school teacher reportedly died of a heart attack following months of financial and mental distress caused by non-payment of salary.
The deceased, identified as Laxmidhar Mohanty, was a teacher at Sujagada Primary School under Khaira block. He had been transferred to the school six months ago from Durukhagoda Primary School in Dasamantapur block of Koraput district.
According to family members, Mohanty had not received his salary since the transfer due to delays in processing his Last Pay Certificate (LPC) and other necessary documents. Despite making repeated visits to the concerned education offices in Koraput and approaching officials to resolve the issue, his salary was allegedly not released.
Relatives claimed that the prolonged delay created severe financial hardship for the teacher and placed him under tremendous mental pressure. They further alleged that he was asked to pay a bribe to expedite the processing of his documents, a demand he was unable to meet. The continued uncertainty reportedly pushed him into depression.
On Wednesday morning, Mohanty suffered a heart attack at his residence in Kaanlkhunta village under Khaira block and passed away.
His brother, Lambodhar Mohanty, has filed a written complaint at Khaira Police Station, accusing certain officials of negligence and holding them responsible for the teacher’s death. Police have registered the complaint and launched an investigation into the allegations surrounding the case.
