Hotel owner murdered in Puri; accused injured in police encounter during escape attempt
Bhubaneswar, June 24: A shocking murder in the Baliapanda area of Puri has triggered concern among local residents after the owner of Manorama Hotel was allegedly killed late on Tuesday night. Police have arrested the prime accused following a swift operation, during which he was injured while allegedly attempting to evade arrest.
According to police sources, the accused has been identified as Chandan Palar, a resident of Chakratirtha Road in Puri. Soon after receiving information about the murder, Baliapanda Police launched an intensive investigation and initiated a search operation to trace the suspect.
During the operation, police tracked down Palar and attempted to apprehend him. However, officials said the accused allegedly tried to flee from the spot, prompting police to open fire. Palar sustained a bullet injury to his left leg and was immediately taken into custody before being admitted to a hospital in Puri for treatment.
The murder has sent shockwaves through the Baliapanda locality, with residents expressing concern over the violent incident. Police have not yet disclosed the motive behind the killing and are examining all possible angles, including personal and business-related disputes.
Senior police officers have visited the crime scene and forensic evidence is being collected to strengthen the investigation. Authorities are also questioning individuals connected to both the deceased and the accused to establish the sequence of events leading to the murder.
