Puri Police arrest alleged kingpin of multi-crore IPL betting racket
Bhubaneswar, June 24: In a major crackdown on illegal betting activities, Puri Police have arrested the alleged mastermind behind a multi-crore IPL betting syndicate that was reportedly operating across Odisha for nearly two years.
The accused, identified as Krishna Prasad Tripathy alias “Boss” (32), a resident of Berhampur, is believed to have managed a sophisticated betting network linked to online IPL gambling. According to police, Tripathy maintained a low profile and concealed his identity while running the operation. He reportedly owned a hotel named “Namaste” in Berhampur and is suspected of developing customized software to facilitate betting transactions.
Investigators revealed that the accused allegedly used the online platform “Sky Exchange” to conduct betting activities and earned substantial profits through the illegal enterprise. Following his arrest, police conducted searches at his residence and recovered around ₹10 lakh in cash. Additionally, ₹8 lakh in his Axis Bank account was frozen and seized. Authorities are now examining his other bank accounts, properties, ATM transactions and financial assets.
The arrest follows an earlier raid conducted on April 29 at Masani Chandi Square in Puri, where four persons were caught red-handed while allegedly engaging in IPL betting. Police had then seized ₹3.04 lakh in cash and six mobile phones from the spot. A subsequent search at one of the accused persons’ residences led to the recovery of another ₹22.31 lakh.
With total seizures and frozen assets exceeding ₹31.81 lakh, police believe the arrest of the alleged kingpin has dealt a significant blow to the betting syndicate. Further investigations are underway to identify additional links and beneficiaries connected to the racket.
