CM Majhi welcomes FCRA amendments, calls them a boost for transparency and accountability
Bhubaneswar, June 24: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has welcomed the recent amendments to the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA), describing them as a significant and timely step towards ensuring greater transparency, accountability and responsible utilisation of foreign contributions in the country.
In a detailed statement, the Chief Minister said the revised provisions strengthen the regulatory framework governing foreign funding by introducing stricter disclosure requirements, mandatory identification of ultimate donors, enhanced monitoring mechanisms and field-level verification of fund utilisation. He noted that the amendments also include a clear prohibition on the use of foreign funds for proselytisation activities.
Majhi said the reforms send a strong message that India remains open to genuine developmental, educational, humanitarian and welfare initiatives supported by foreign contributions. However, he emphasized that foreign funds should not be misused for hidden agendas, ideological influence or activities that could undermine national interests.
“These amendments reinforce transparency, accountability and responsible utilisation of foreign contributions while safeguarding India’s sovereignty, social harmony and cultural ethos,” the Chief Minister stated.
He further credited the reforms to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying the Centre has taken decisive steps to strengthen institutional integrity and ensure that foreign contributions are used solely for nation-building and public welfare.
The recent tightening of FCRA regulations has generated considerable discussion across the country. The Central Government maintains that the changes will help prevent misuse of foreign funds while continuing to facilitate legitimate charitable, developmental and social welfare activities carried out by eligible organisations.
