PM Modi Highlights Sports, Heatwave Preparedness and Social Service in Latest Mann Ki Baat

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation on Sunday during the 134th edition of his monthly radio programme, Mann Ki Baat, focusing on a range of topics including India’s sporting achievements, heatwave preparedness, water conservation, and inspiring examples of community service from across the country.

During the broadcast, the Prime Minister congratulated Indian athletes for their recent accomplishments on the national and international stage. He particularly praised sprinter Gurindervir Singh for creating a new national record in the men’s 100-metre race. Modi also acknowledged the achievements of young athlete Animesh Kujur, stating that the success of emerging sportspersons reflects the growing strength of India’s athletics ecosystem and inspires future generations to pursue excellence in sports.

With several states currently experiencing intense summer temperatures, Modi urged citizens to take necessary precautions to protect themselves from heat-related illnesses. He encouraged people to stay hydrated and adopt healthy traditional practices that have been followed in India for generations. The Prime Minister highlighted a variety of regional summer drinks such as aam panna, lassi, chaas, sattu sharbat, kokum sharbat, sol kadhi, panakam, neer mor, sambaram, and Odisha’s popular bela panna. He noted that these beverages not only help people cope with extreme heat but also represent India’s diverse culinary traditions.

The Prime Minister also devoted significant attention to water conservation, stressing the need for collective efforts to preserve water resources. He appealed to citizens, local communities, and organizations to actively participate in initiatives aimed at rainwater harvesting, water management, and environmental protection. According to him, small actions taken by individuals can collectively make a substantial impact on ensuring water security for future generations.

Another important segment of the programme focused on individuals whose efforts are creating positive social change. Modi highlighted the work of Kerala-based swimming instructor Saji Valasheril, who has dedicated himself to teaching swimming to specially-abled children. The Prime Minister praised the initiative, noting that thousands of children have benefited from the programme over the years. He described such selfless acts as examples of how ordinary citizens can make extraordinary contributions to society.

In addition to discussing social welfare and public service, Modi touched upon India’s rich cultural heritage. Referring to the summer season, he spoke about the popularity of mangoes and the various traditions associated with them across different regions of the country. He emphasized the importance of celebrating India’s diversity while preserving local customs and traditions.

Concluding the programme, the Prime Minister encouraged citizens to continue contributing to nation-building through community participation, environmental responsibility, and social service. He reiterated that collective efforts by individuals can help address national challenges and strengthen the spirit of unity across the country.

Mann Ki Baat, launched in 2014, remains one of the Prime Minister’s key platforms for connecting with citizens and sharing stories of innovation, inspiration, and public participation from every corner of India.
