Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls to begin across Odisha from tomorrow
Bhubaneswar, May 29: The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls will begin across Odisha from Thursday, Chief Electoral Officer RS Gopalan announced on Wednesday.
Addressing a press conference, the CEO said the revision exercise will continue till June 28 and is aimed at ensuring error-free and updated electoral rolls across the state. He informed that mapping of more than three crore voters has already been completed during the preliminary phase of the exercise.
According to Gopalan, nearly 17 per cent logical errors have been detected during the mapping process, including discrepancies in names, addresses, dates of birth, photographs, and other voter details.
As part of the revision drive, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will visit every household across Odisha from tomorrow. During the visits, each voter will be provided with two forms. One copy will remain with the voter while the other will be submitted to the concerned BLO after verification and correction of details, if required.
The CEO said BLOs will assist voters in correcting errors related to names, father’s names, dates of birth, addresses, and photographs on the spot.
Voters can also download the required forms from the official Election Commission website, voters.eci.gov.in, and submit them online after filling in the details.
Gopalan further informed that non-Indian citizens found in the electoral rolls will be deleted directly. BLOs will cover over 3.33 crore households with the support of 31,026 Booth Level Agents during the statewide verification drive.
