Unidentified woman’s body found on riverbank in Bhadrak, murder suspected
Bhubaneswar, May 29: The body of an unidentified woman was found on the banks of the Reba River under Bodak Panchayat within Tihidi police station limits in Odisha’s Bhadrak district on Wednesday, triggering strong suspicion of murder.
According to reports, local residents first spotted the woman’s body lying near the riverbank in the Gumundia area and immediately alerted the police. Following the information, personnel from Tihidi Police Station rushed to the spot and initiated a preliminary investigation.
Police sources said the woman had visible injury marks on her head, while bloodstains were also found on the nearby road. The circumstances surrounding the incident have led investigators to suspect that the woman may have been murdered elsewhere and her body later dumped near the riverbank to conceal the crime.
The discovery created panic and curiosity among villagers, with several locals gathering near the spot as police carried out the investigation.
Officials said the identity of the deceased woman is yet to be established. Preliminary inquiry suggests that she may not belong to the local area, prompting police to investigate possible missing person reports from nearby districts as well.
Police are currently questioning local residents and collecting evidence from the scene to trace those involved in the suspected crime.
The body has been sent for post-mortem examination, and further investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of death, the motive behind the suspected murder, and the circumstances under which the body was dumped near the river.
