One burnt alive, another critical in fiery bike accident in Angul
Bhubaneswar, May 29: In a tragic road accident, one person was burnt alive while another sustained critical injuries after a motorcycle caught fire following a collision with an unidentified vehicle on National Highway-149 in Odisha’s Angul district.
The incident occurred late on Tuesday night near Burukuna Chhak close to the Samakoi Bridge under Samal police station limits.
According to reports, the motorcycle carrying two persons was hit by an unidentified vehicle on the highway. The impact of the collision was reportedly so severe that the bike immediately caught fire.
One of the riders became trapped in the flames and was burnt alive on the spot before help could arrive. The motorcycle was completely gutted in the blaze, leaving behind charred remains at the accident site.
The second person riding the bike sustained serious injuries in the incident. Locals and emergency responders rushed him to Khamar Community Health Centre for immediate medical attention. However, as his condition deteriorated, doctors referred him to Angul District Headquarters Hospital for advanced treatment.
After receiving information about the incident, personnel from Samal Police Station reached the spot and initiated an investigation into the hit-and-run case.
Police are trying to identify the vehicle involved in the accident as well as ascertain the identity of the deceased person. Efforts are also underway to gather evidence from the accident site and trace the absconding driver responsible for the collision.
Further investigation into the incident is continuing.
