NEET-UG 2026 Cancelled Amid Paper Leak Allegations, Fresh Exam to Be Conducted

In a major development that has sparked nationwide debate and concern among students, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially cancelled the NEET-UG 2026 examination following serious allegations of a paper leak. The medical entrance examination, conducted on May 3 across the country, is now set to be held again on a fresh date, which will be announced later by the authorities.

The decision came after reports emerged claiming that a “guess paper” circulated before the examination contained several questions that closely matched the actual NEET-UG question paper. Allegations quickly spread across social media platforms, leading to protests by students and parents in different cities. Many candidates demanded an immediate investigation and cancellation of the exam, arguing that the integrity and fairness of the national-level medical entrance test had been compromised.

According to reports, investigators found significant similarities between portions of the leaked material and the Biology and Chemistry sections of the exam. The controversy intensified after coaching centre-related links and inter-state connections were reportedly discovered during preliminary inquiries. The issue soon turned into a national concern as lakhs of students who had spent years preparing for the highly competitive examination feared that deserving candidates could lose opportunities because of unfair practices.

In response to the growing outrage, the Union Education Ministry directed a detailed probe into the matter. The case has now been handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which will conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the alleged leak network and identify those responsible. Officials stated that strict action would be taken against individuals or organizations found involved in the malpractice.

The NTA announced that students will not be required to pay any additional examination fee for the re-test. Existing registration details are expected to remain valid, and candidates are likely to receive updated admit cards once the revised schedule is finalized. Authorities have urged students not to panic and to rely only on official announcements for authentic information regarding the fresh examination dates.

The cancellation has triggered strong political reactions as well. Opposition leaders criticized the government over repeated concerns regarding examination management and security lapses in major competitive tests. Several student organizations also staged demonstrations in Delhi and other cities, demanding transparency and accountability from the authorities.

Education experts believe the incident has once again highlighted the urgent need for stronger security systems in national examinations. Many have called for stricter monitoring, digital safeguards, and tougher laws against organized cheating and paper leak rackets. Parents and students have expressed disappointment, saying the uncertainty has added mental stress to candidates already under intense academic pressure.

NEET-UG is one of India’s largest entrance examinations and serves as the gateway for admission into MBBS, BDS, and other medical courses across the country. Every year, millions of students appear for the exam hoping to secure seats in prestigious medical colleges.

The NTA is expected to announce the revised examination schedule soon through its official website. Meanwhile, students have been advised to continue their preparation and stay updated through official notifications only.
