NEET aspirant dies by suicide in Bhadrak after exam anxiety
Bhubaneswar, May 7: In a tragic incident, a NEET aspirant from Bhadrak district allegedly died by suicide after reportedly fearing that he had performed poorly in his second attempt at the national medical entrance examination.
The deceased has been identified as Jyotiprakash Barik, a resident of Nandore village under Tihidi police station limits. According to family members, Jyotiprakash had scored 330 marks in his first NEET attempt and had been preparing intensely for another chance this year.
He was staying with his parents in a rented house behind the Treasury Office in Bhadrak town while continuing his studies. Family sources said the student had been under severe stress and often worried about his future and career prospects.
Jyotiprakash appeared for the NEET examination on May 3. After returning home, he reportedly self-assessed his answers and became convinced that his performance had once again fallen short of expectations. Deeply distressed over the outcome, he allegedly took the extreme step while alone at home.
When family members found him unconscious, he was immediately rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital in Bhadrak. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival.
The incident has left the family devastated and shocked relatives and neighbours. Police have initiated an investigation into the matter and are examining the circumstances surrounding the incident.
