Thunderstorm alert: IMD issues yellow warning for 24 Odisha districts
Bhubaneswar, April 21: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Warning for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds across multiple districts of Odisha, according to the Midday Weather Bulletin released by its Meteorological Centre Bhubaneswar.
Thunderstorms with lightning and winds reaching 40–50 kmph are very likely at one or two places in Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts. Similar weather conditions, with wind speeds of 30–40 kmph, are expected in several other districts, including Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Koraput, Angul, Dhenkanal, Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Puri, Khurda, Ganjam, and Gajapati.
Light to moderate rain or thundershowers are likely at isolated places across these 24 districts, while the rest of the state may experience dry weather. Hot and humid conditions are expected in coastal areas such as Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, and Puri.
Recent rainfall has already been recorded in parts of the state, with Khajuripada in Kandhamal receiving 3 cm and several areas in Mayurbhanj reporting 1–2 cm rainfall.
Meanwhile, temperatures have dipped by around 3°C in parts of South Interior Odisha, while coastal regions saw a slight rise. Titilagarh recorded the highest temperature at 42.5°C, and Keonjhar reported the lowest minimum at 19.1°C.
