Minor climbs 100-foot tree, demands to meet girlfriend in Angul
Bhubaneswar, April 21: A dramatic scene unfolded in Odisha’s Angul district on Tuesday when a minor boy climbed nearly 100 feet up a eucalyptus tree and refused to come down for over one and a half hours, demanding to meet his girlfriend.
The incident occurred inside Utkal Balashram in Amalapada under Angul police limits. According to reports, the boy threatened to end his life by making a noose from a towel if his girlfriend was not brought before him, triggering panic among officials and locals.
The boy, a native of Rairakhol, had reportedly eloped with his minor girlfriend earlier. The couple was later traced by Railway Police and produced before the Child Welfare Committee. As per its directive, the boy was kept at the Balashram while the girl was shifted to a counselling centre.
On receiving information, fire services personnel, police, and municipal authorities rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation. Officials engaged the boy in continuous counselling and assured him that his concerns would be addressed.
After nearly 90 minutes of tension, the boy safely climbed down following assurances that he would be allowed to meet the girl, bringing the situation under control.
