Agniveer trainee found dead at INS Chilika; family seeks probe
Bhubaneswar, April 20: In a concerning incident, the hanging body of an Agniveer trainee was recovered from the Indian Navy’s premier training establishment, INS Chilika, on Monday, raising serious questions over the circumstances of his death.
The deceased has been identified as Vikas Kumar, a resident of Saripur village in Bhojpur district. According to a complaint filed by his father, Pintu Sah, at Balugaon police station, Vikas had joined the naval training centre nearly two months ago under the Agniveer scheme.
Preliminary reports indicate that Vikas allegedly died by hanging inside a gym on the campus on the night of April 18. However, his family has strongly rejected the possibility of suicide, asserting that he showed no signs of distress and was in regular contact with his mother. They claim they were informed about the “unnatural death” only the following morning.
Police have registered a case and launched an investigation. A scientific team examined the spot, and the body was sent to Banpur hospital for post-mortem before being handed over to the family. The incident has sparked concern, especially following a similar case reported earlier this month.
