Bhubaneswar, April 17: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday issued a midday weather bulletin warning of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds across multiple districts of Odisha, even as heatwave conditions are expected to persist in parts of the state.

According to the IMD’s Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, a trough extending from north Bihar to south Chhattisgarh across Jharkhand and interior Odisha, along with an upper-air cyclonic circulation over north coastal Odisha, is influencing current weather patterns.

Over the past 24 hours, light to moderate rainfall was recorded in Mayurbhanj, Balasore and Rayagada districts, with the highest rainfall of 3 cm reported at several locations in Mayurbhanj. The rest of the state experienced largely dry conditions.

Temperatures have risen by around 2°C in parts of interior Odisha, with Titilagarh recording the highest maximum temperature of 43.7°C. The lowest minimum temperature of 21.6°C was reported in Jagatsinghpur and Rayagada.

The IMD has forecast light to moderate rain or thundershowers in districts including Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Puri, Khurda, Koraput and Sundargarh till April 18 morning.

A Yellow Warning has been issued for thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (40–50 kmph) in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Bhadrak and Balasore, while similar conditions with slightly lower wind speeds are likely in several other districts.
