Naveen Patnaik pays tribute to Biju Patnaik on death anniversary
Bhubaneswar, April 17: Naveen Patnaik, President of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), on Friday paid rich tributes to legendary leader Biju Patnaik on his death anniversary, recalling his immense contribution to Odisha and the nation.
Addressing party workers, Naveen described Biju Patnaik as a “great son of the soil” and a towering personality who symbolised courage, patriotism, and self-respect. He said Biju Babu’s legacy continues to inspire generations and will remain immortal in the hearts of the people.
Highlighting his contributions, Naveen Patnaik noted that Biju Patnaik was a pioneer in women’s empowerment, taking progressive steps as early as the 1990s. He pointed out that it is significant that the Women’s Reservation Bill is being taken up in Parliament around the time of Biju Babu’s death anniversary. Reaffirming the party’s stand, he said the BJD strongly supports the bill.
The BJD president also raised serious concerns over the proposed delimitation exercise, stating that it poses a threat to Odia identity and self-respect. He revealed that he has written to the Chief Minister, urging the convening of a special Assembly session within 48 hours to pass a resolution protecting Odisha’s political interests.
