Revenue Inspector caught taking bribe in Kendrapara
Bhubaneswar, Feb 27: In a crackdown on corruption, Odisha Vigilance officials on Friday apprehended Pradyumna Keshari Behura, Revenue Inspector (RI) of Keredagarh under Rajnagar Tahasil in Kendrapara district, while allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹5,000 from a landowner.
According to a statement issued by the Odisha Vigilance, Behura had demanded the money in exchange for submitting a favourable report in a pending land mutation case. Mutation is a crucial administrative process that establishes ownership rights in official land records, and delays often cause significant hardship to applicants.
Acting on a complaint lodged by the landowner, vigilance officials laid a trap and caught the RI red-handed while receiving the bribe amount. The tainted money was recovered from his possession and seized as evidence.
Following the arrest, simultaneous searches were launched at two locations linked to the accused to ascertain whether he had accumulated assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. A case has been registered against Behura under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
