Mystery deepens in Paradip woman’s death; sexual assault and murder suspected
Bhubaneswar, Feb 25: The investigation into the death of a young woman in the Tarinigada area of Paradip has taken a serious turn, with police now suspecting sexual assault and murder behind what was initially treated as an unnatural death. The woman allegedly fell from the fourth floor of a residential building late Sunday night under mysterious circumstances.
Her body was recovered from beneath the four-storey building two days ago, prompting police to register an unnatural death case. However, fresh evidence gathered during the probe, including CCTV footage, has raised grave suspicions.
Police identified the victim as a Plus III student from Kolar village under Tirtol police limits in Jagatsinghpur district. On the day of the incident, she had reportedly visited the revered Sarala Temple with a male friend. Following an alleged disagreement, she chose not to return with him and was later seen standing alone on the Cuttack–Paradip road.
Investigators believe a non-Odia youth offered her a lift and allegedly took her to his rented accommodation in the same building. Police suspect she was sexually assaulted and then pushed off the rooftop to stage an accident. The suspect is currently in custody and being interrogated.
