RPF seizes foreign currency and ₹2.69 lakh from unattended bag at Dunguripali station
Bhubaneswar, Feb 25: In a major seizure, personnel of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) recovered 19 foreign currency notes along with ₹2.69 lakh in Indian cash from an unattended bag at Dunguripali railway station in Subarnapur district.
According to reports, an RPF Havildar noticed a youth sitting at the station with the bag and found his behaviour suspicious. When questioned, the youth claimed that he was waiting for the Puri–Durg Express to travel to Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh. However, sensing trouble, he suddenly fled from the spot, abandoning the bag.
The RPF team, in coordination with railway security personnel, immediately seized the bag and conducted a thorough inspection. Inside, they discovered 19 foreign currency notes from countries including the UAE, Malaysia, China and Thailand, apart from ₹2.69 lakh in Indian currency.
Authorities have launched an investigation to trace the identity of the absconding youth and ascertain the source and purpose of carrying such a substantial amount of Indian and foreign currency. Further inquiry is underway.
