CM announces ₹4 lakh ex gratia for victims of hoarding collapse in Bhubaneswar
Bhubaneswar, Feb 25: Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday announced an ex gratia of ₹4 lakh each for the families of two persons who lost their lives after a giant display hoarding collapsed near Patrapada–Aiginia Durga Mandap in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday evening amid strong gusty winds.
The deceased have been identified as Tuna Gouda and Sachidanand Pradhan. Several others sustained injuries in the mishap and were immediately shifted to nearby hospitals, where they are currently undergoing treatment.
In a post on X, the Chief Minister’s Office expressed deep grief over the tragic loss of lives and conveyed condolences to the bereaved families. The financial assistance will be provided from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to the next of kin of the deceased.
According to reports, the massive hoarding suddenly crashed onto a busy stretch, trapping several people underneath and triggering panic in the area. The impact also caused damage to nearby shops.
Police and fire services personnel promptly reached the site and launched a rescue operation. Bodies were later sent to AIIMS Bhubaneswar for post-mortem examination.
