Bhubaneswar tops crimes against women cases in Odisha: State Commission report
Bhubaneswar, Feb 11: Bhubaneswar has recorded the highest number of crimes against women in Odisha, with 298 cases registered, according to the Odisha State Commission for Women’s 2024–25 annual report. The report was released during a special function marking the Commission’s 33rd foundation day.
Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida attended the event as chief guest, while Ministers Mukesh Mahaling and Sampad Chandra Swain joined as guests. Commission Chairperson Shovana Mohanty presented the report, highlighting trends, case disposal rates, and district-wise data on crimes against women.
As per the report, a total of 2,064 cases were registered across the state during the financial year, out of which 1,879 cases have been resolved, reflecting a significant disposal rate. Domestic violence emerged as the most reported crime with 852 cases. This was followed by dowry harassment and abandonment (675 cases) and violation of women’s rights (182 cases).
Other reported offences included indecent behaviour (137), cheating (30), rape (24), suspicious deaths (14), and dowry deaths (12). After Bhubaneswar, the highest numbers were reported in Cuttack (214), Khordha (210), Puri (181), Ganjam (120), Bhadrak (113), and Jajpur (103), indicating widespread concern across districts.
