Odisha DGP warns Maoists: Surrender or face strict action
Bhubaneswar, Feb 27: Odisha’s Director General of Police (DGP) has issued a strong warning to Maoists, asking them to shun violence and surrender, or be prepared to face firm action from security forces, including the Special Operations Group (SOG).
The DGP made the remarks while attending a two-day workshop organised by the Commissionerate Police and the Crime Against Women wing, which was attended by senior officers and students from various educational institutions. Addressing the media, he expressed confidence that Odisha would become Maoist-free before the targeted deadline.
He referred to the ongoing anti-Maoist operation in Kandhamal’s Daringbadi region, suspected to be a hideout of Maoist leader Sukru, as a significant step towards dismantling extremist networks in the state.
“The Maoists are at a crossroads. They must either lay down arms and join the mainstream or face the consequences,” he said. He reiterated that the state’s rehabilitation policy offers financial assistance and reintegration support to those who surrender with arms.
Highlighting improved policing outcomes, the DGP said 170 cases were solved in the past year, including one in Bhubaneswar within 360 days, underscoring the force’s commitment to swift justice.
