Four Maoist cadres surrender before Kandhamal Police, join mainstream
Bhubaneswar, Feb 6: In a major setback to the banned CPI (Maoist) outfit, four underground cadres of Party Member (PM) rank surrendered before Kandhamal Police, renouncing violence and rejoining the democratic mainstream.
The surrendered cadres have been identified as Ganga Kunjami @ Jiten, Muchaki Mase @ Sumitra, Chomali Kunjam @ Santila, and Bandi Madvi @ Malati. All are residents of neighbouring Chhattisgarh. During the surrender, they laid down arms, ammunition, explosives, and other incriminating materials, including an SLR rifle and a bore gun.
Police sources said the cadres formally severed ties with extremist activities and expressed faith in democratic institutions. Multiple factors led to their decision, including sustained appeals by Odisha Police, intensified security force operations, ideological disillusionment, lack of local support, leadership crisis within the organization, and the attraction of the state’s Surrender-cum-Rehabilitation Policy.
Under the policy, they will receive ₹10 lakh reward money, ₹25,000 interim relief each, housing under Antyodaya Gruha Yojana, a ₹25,000 marriage incentive, free skill development training, a monthly stipend of ₹10,000 for 36 months, along with health cards and free rations under PMGKAY.
Odisha Police assured full protection and rehabilitation support, urging remaining Maoist cadres to surrender and return to mainstream society.
