Bomb threat emails trigger panic in Odisha courts; security intensified
Bhubaneswar, Feb 6: Panic swept through several district courts in Odisha on Friday after anonymous bomb threat emails were received by District Judge Courts in Cuttack, Phulbani, and Puri. The alarming messages led to immediate evacuations and large-scale security deployments across the court premises.
According to reports, the emails claimed explosives had been planted inside the court complexes, causing fear among judges, lawyers, staff, and litigants. Court proceedings were temporarily halted as police cleared the buildings and sealed entry points to facilitate security operations.
Bomb disposal squads, sniffer dog units, and local police teams conducted exhaustive searches across court campuses, scanning courtrooms, record rooms, parking areas, and surrounding premises. Cyber experts from the Crime Branch have also joined the probe, working to trace the IP address and origin of the emails.
Puri SP Prateek Singh said the court was evacuated immediately after receiving the threat and the परिसर thoroughly sanitised, with vehicles frisked and every section checked.
No explosives or suspicious materials were found at any location. Police suspect hoax threats, noting similar anonymous emails targeted multiple Odisha courts, including Cuttack and Sambalpur, in recent months.
