Bhubaneswar, Feb 6: The Odisha government has initiated urgent measures to trace missing merchant navy cadet Sarthak Mohapatra, who disappeared from the EA Jersey vessel near Malaysian waters on February 3. The incident has raised concern, prompting swift intervention from both state and central authorities.
Principal Resident Commissioner Vishal Gagan has written to key central government departments seeking immediate assistance in the search and rescue operation. Letters have been sent to the Secretaries of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, External Affairs, and Home Affairs, along with the Director General of Shipping, urging coordinated action to locate the 23-year-old cadet.
Sarthak, a native of Bhadrak district, was serving with Anglo-Eastern Ship Management as a maritime cadet. He was last seen entering his cabin aboard the vessel on February 3.
