Woman killed, husband critical after late-night stabbing near Jharsuguda railway station
Bhubaneswar, Feb 5: In a shocking late-night incident, a woman was killed and her husband critically injured after a miscreant stabbed the couple near Jharsuguda railway station on Wednesday.
According to reports, the couple had travelled to Rengali railway station to collect plastic waste and later brought it to Jharsuguda for sale. After selling the scrap for around Rs 750, they were returning with the money when the attack took place near the train washing platform area.
Police said the assailant suddenly confronted the couple and attempted to rob them. During the altercation, he stabbed the husband. The woman, whose identity is yet to be officially disclosed, intervened to protect her spouse but sustained a fatal stab injury to her chest and died on the spot.
The injured man was immediately rescued and admitted to the District Headquarters Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Following the incident, Jharsuguda police launched a swift investigation and apprehended the accused. Blood-stained clothes were recovered from his possession. The accused, a native of Jharkhand, has reportedly confessed and was handed over to the Government Railway Police for further probe.
