Odisha prepares micro-plan to tackle cyclone threat, 24-hour control rooms set up
Bhubaneswar, Oct 26: The Odisha government has prepared a micro-plan to deal with the impending cyclonic storm and established 24-hour control rooms at the state and district levels, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari said on Monday.
Speaking to reporters, Pujari said rainfall was expected across all 30 districts, with heavy precipitation likely in several areas. He added that Odisha would experience the impact of the weather system even if it crossed the coast in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.
Malkangiri is expected to be among the worst-affected districts, prompting the government to intensify preparedness measures. Ministers and senior officials have been deployed to the field to review arrangements and ensure timely action wherever necessary.
The control rooms will monitor the evolving weather situation round the clock and coordinate responses with district administrations and relevant departments to minimise potential damage.
The minister also expressed concern over a possible rise in the Mahanadi’s water level due to rainfall in neighbouring Chhattisgarh. He said the government was prioritising water management and had held discussions with Chhattisgarh authorities to prevent a possible flood situation.
The state government is closely monitoring weather developments and coordinating with concerned agencies to protect lives and property. Residents have been urged to remain alert and follow official advisories.
