Ganjam administration closes all sea beaches amid cyclone threat

Bhubaneswar, Oct 26: In view of the possibility of a cyclonic storm developing over the Bay of Bengal and its potential impact on the South Odisha coast, the Ganjam district administration has ordered the temporary closure of all sea beaches in the district from noon on October 26 to 10 am on October 30, 2026.

According to an order issued by the Office of the Collector and District Magistrate, Ganjam, on Sunday, the restriction will cover popular tourist destinations, including Gopalpur Sea Beach and Sonapur Sea Beach, along with all other beaches in the district.

The decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of tourists, visitors and local residents amid the possibility of adverse weather conditions due to the approaching cyclonic system.

During the closure period, public entry to the beaches will remain strictly prohibited. The administration has urged tourists and residents to cooperate with the authorities and refrain from visiting coastal areas until the restriction is lifted.

The order will remain effective until 10 am on October 30, unless modified or withdrawn earlier by the authorities.

The district administration has appealed to the public to remain alert, follow official advisories and prioritise safety as the weather system develops over the Bay of Bengal.
